Orvis Case Study: Retail
The Problem
Sporting goods icon Orvis, America's oldest mail-order company, today depends on the Internet as its principal revenue source. The retailer's online store augments its catalog and brick and mortar stores to reach millions of consumers around the world every year. Although adding e-tailing to its channel strategy has allowed the company to expand its brand footprint, the Internet also brought inherent challenges such as network outages, performance issues and latency that Orvis felt powerless to manage or control. As a result, some customers experienced unacceptably slow performance on Orvis' website, causing them to abandon the site, while others were unable to access the site at all.
"Since we installed Internap's Route Control technology, we have more page views, more click-throughs, more people buying - more of everything."

Internap Solution
Orvis installed an Internap® Route Control solution at its Roanoke, Virginia operations center a few months prior to the vital holiday shopping season. Since the installation, Orvis has seen a noticeable increase in online sales, attributable in large part to Internap's technology, and is better able to manage the quality and cost of its e-retail site.
