What are some of the ways that I or my organization may want to use Internap Cloud Storage?
There are various use cases and yours may be unique. However, here are some ways customers may take advantage of Internap’s unique cloud storage solution:
- A simple, easy-to-use online storage repository that provides high availability, performance, with redundant safeguards to ensure that no files are ever lost.
- As “near storage” or secondary storage capacity for less-than-current files. For instance, online publishers may be looking for a way to make their older published content immediately available to end-users as an intermediary, cost-effective step before archival.
- Use as file storage for specific applications. Internap provides an API for developers to “integrate” Internap cloud storage into their solutions environment.
- As a trusted backup or archival of your business files. For instance, at engineering organizations, design and rich media shops, legal offices and other organizations where safe off-site backup of high value files is very important.
- For use as dynamically flexible storage capacity for times when your storage needs may unpredictably fluctuate or be very difficult to estimate.
- As an integrated solution with other Internap service offerings such as Managed Hosting.
What is a storage “container” in Internap Cloud Storage?
The best way to understand a container is to think about it like a file drawer in your office. You can put whatever you want into the drawer. You can see what’s inside at any time. However, if you want to classify content further, you would create other containers that made sense, much like you would use other file drawers to hold important materials. So, you may use multiple containers to contain files for various projects. Or, you may have video files and media for special events you are coordinating and you use a container for each event.
How much storage can I utilize and what is the maximum file size that I can upload?
You can store an unlimited number of files sized up to 5GB each. Need to upload multiple TBs of data? We’d be happy to upload your data to the object store for you.
Can Internap Cloud Storage support my database applications?
Cloud storage is not designed to store block-level storage such as that used for many database applications. Cloud storage does support files or “objects.”

What does “data transfer” or bandwidth pricing mean?
Internap charges for the transfer of files “in” and “out” of the cloud environment. This charge is calculated for each Gigabyte.
Does Internap provide volume discounts for storage usage?

Privacy
Does Internap “data mine” the information and files I store in the cloud?
Your information and files are protected and will not be data mined, sold, or otherwise exposed to other parties.

Does Internap maintain my credit card information?
Internap uses a secure third party vendor to process your credit card payments. For security purposes, Internap employees do not have access to a customer’s full credit card information.
Security & Encryption
How are my files made secure in the storage cloud?
We utilize unique key and value pairs to safeguard data in the object store—your data is inaccessible without these essential pieces of data. Additionally, we utilize SSL encrypted connections to securely transfer your data to and from the object store.
Can I store encrypted files in the “Cloud?”
If you want to store encrypted data, it’s no problem! We can store that for you too. Just be sure to encrypt it before you upload it to the cloud.
How are my files protected from loss?
Internap Cloud Storage is a highly-redundant cloud storage platform. We replicate your files so that there are three copies at any one time across multiple platform zones. In addition, we are constantly monitoring systems to ensure file integrity is maintained at all times.
What really happens to files I “delete” from Internap Cloud Storage?
When you remove data from the cloud, all copies are permanently destroyed. Moreover the physical space on which the data was stored is zeroed over before the space is re-used by other data—data that is deleted is unrecoverable.
I forgot my password. How do I get a new one?
You may reset your password by visiting the Internap Cloud Storage Portal and selecting the “Reset my Password” link. Simply enter the email address you used to create the account and a new password will be mailed to you. After receiving this password, you may update it to the password of your choice by logging into the portal, going to “My Account” and selecting “Change Password” at the bottom of the page. Your login username is the full email address you used when creating the account.
Billing Questions
When will I be charged for the storage I use?
You will be charged on a monthly basis from the day you sign up for Internap Cloud Storage. For example, if you signed up on March 12th, you will be billed on April 12th, May 12th, and so on. Billing is always in arrears for storage usage. In other words, you pay for storage you have used in the preceding month.
I would like to be invoiced and pay my account through my corporate purchasing process rather than by credit card. Is this possible?
Internap can work with you on an alternative payment method. If you have any feedback, questions or issues while using Internap Cloud Storage, please contact your account representative.
How is the amount of storage capacity I use calculated?
Storage use is based on average monthly utilization. Measurements will be taken at regular intervals and divided over the monthly billing period to estimate your charges for the service. If you cancel your service, you will be billed based on your average actual usage in the billing cycle up until your last day of use.
