Green Initiatives in Santa Clara Data Center

Using recycled water – effectively reclaimed water not suitable for drinking – ensures more potable water is available for public consumption. These efforts are especially critical during drought conditions or other times when reservoirs may be taxed. Joe Pavao, Internap Facility Manager, expects the Santa Clara facility to be able to reuse almost 1,000,000 gallons per month when the data center is operating at capacity. We also expect to see a cost savings of approximately 40% over commercial water.

According to Drinktap.org, the average American uses approximately 69 gallons of water per day*. The water our data center is reusing equates to the same amount of water used by more than 100 four-person households per month.

This is only one of our ongoing efforts focusing on green technology and conservation. Other steps we’ve taken across our data center portfolio include using air economizers, variable speed fans and pumps, ultrasonic humidification and changing the roof color to white.
