Internap improves the delivery of dynamic business-critical, latency-sensitive applications and services, including ecommerce, software as a service (SaaS), and streaming video. Our technology addresses the fundamental issues inherent in BGP. But BGP isn’t the only protocol causing performance problems.
Why Do You XIP?
Want to know how Accelerated IP (XIP™) can accelerate web content and applications up to 4x? Watch this short video: “Why Do You XIP?”.
Defeating the Limits of TCP
Accelerated IP, or XIP™, is Internap’s solution to the weaknesses of Transport Control Protocol (TCP) and those looking for TCP acceleration. Through XIP, enterprise web services and applications that rely on the TCP layer can improve their performance by up to 400%.
While our patented Internet latency solution, Managed Internet Route Optimizer™ (MIRO), offers route optimization, XIP dynamically optimizes the transmission of your data. The two technologies work seamlessly within our worldwide IP network, allowing Internap to offer the most powerful solution for total optimization.
How it Works
When TCP was introduced nearly 40 years ago, the protocol was designed to facilitate reliable communication between two hosts. Today’s networks operate at much higher speeds and regularly span much larger distances between the application origin and end-users, exposing a number of shortcomings inherent in TCP, thus creating the need for TCP acceleration. Slow loading and performance degradation can potentially render applications unusable to some users.
XIP addresses these TCP-related issues through its unique ability to:
- Increase the ramp-up speed of transmission
- Fully utilize available bandwidth regardless of network latency
- Improve transmission recovery following packet loss
XIP allows users to load network applications quickly and maintain consistent, web acceleration throughout their entire session – a critical factor in the success of today’s complex, dynamic applications.
Who Needs XIP
XIP accelerates “application to client” traffic, making it well suited for every business that requires fast, consistent access to dynamic applications running over TCP. Applications that may benefit from XIP include web-based applications, file downloads, and remote desktop services. Multiple application layer protocols, including HTTP, SSL, FTP, RDP and RTSP, can benefit from XIP.
XIP Benefits
XIP is the first Internet traffic accelerator to be delivered as a service that optimizes performance from “source to destination.” XIP offers enhanced traffic performance from the application to the end-user. XIP’s benefits include:
- No hardware or software to install or maintain for you or your end-users
- Improved performance and consistency of your applications
- Expanded geographic reach of your application
- Lower infrastructure expenditures, since you can now use your current network more effectively
